Why do those hiring Interim Management prefer to use specialized companies rather than hiring interim managers directly?

According to the “First International Study on Interim Management” recently conducted by Interim Management Business Institute In 50 countries, most companies that regularly hire Interim Management services prefer to do so with specialized companies.

Over 30% of business owners (32,65%) believe that the main advantage of hiring a specialized Interim Management firm, rather than directly hiring interim managers, is the added value and experience that the firm provides. Other advantages, with percentages exceeding 20% ​​(22,45%), include planning and control of the engagement, establishing a start and end date, the cost of the service, and the guarantee of immediate replacement of the Interim Manager. Also relevant to those hiring (20,41%) is the fact that these firms have access to top international executive management professionals.

Below, we reproduce some of the observations made by Interim Management business owners in various countries, regarding the advantages of hiring transition management services through specialized companies, instead of directly with interim managers:

Another finding of the aforementioned study is that countries with a long tradition of contracting Interim Management services don't even consider directly hiring interim managers. This is the case in Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France, among others.
